Dr. Napolitano, an expert in wound care, recently made a significant impact at the Symposium on Advanced Wound Care (SAWC) held from October 2-5, 2024, in Las Vegas.

With over 3,000 healthcare professionals from more than 20 countries attending, the event served as a platform for wound care specialists to present groundbreaking research and innovative techniques.

Dr. Napolitano presented several abstracts and took home the prestigious People’s Choice Award for his work.

  • Co-Presented on Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NPWT): His talk, titled “Doubling Down on Wound Care: Utilizing the Most Recent Advancement in NPWT Dressings Across the Continuum of Care,” featured a creative “blackjack” theme, engaging the audience with a dynamic presentation on advanced wound care techniques.
  • Panel Discussion on Mirragen, a Bioactive Glass Skin Substitute: Dr. Napolitano participated in an expert panel that discussed the use and benefits of this cutting-edge technology in wound healing.

Award-Winning Abstract: Bioactive Glass Heals Complex Wounds

Among the several abstracts Dr. Napolitano presented, the standout was his co-authored work titled “Bioactive Glass Effectively Heals Complex Lower Extremity Wounds: A Case Series.” His collaborators, James Wischmeier, a second-year medical student at OUHCOM, and Samir Balraj, a medical assistant at OrthoNeuro, contributed to this impactful research.

This abstract received the People’s Choice Award, standing out from nearly 400 entries, a record number for this conference. The award was based on votes from conference attendees, underscoring the research’s relevance and significance to the global wound care community.
