The aged population is starting to become more active.
The typical things that I see that we take care of are rotator cuff tearing, labral tearing, and non-surgical stuff such as bursitis and overuse type of injury.
In an older patient, I would have them rest it for at least a week. If you don’t have cardiac disease or GI issues, you can start taking an anti-inflammatory.
If they’re doing that and their symptoms persist after a week, then they should be seen.
Or if they’re losing motion in the joint, whether it be a knee or a shoulder, if the knee’s locked up, they can’t straighten it out, they should come in sooner.
