Dr. Braden J. Passias is a fellowship-trained orthopedic spine surgeon specializing in the comprehensive treatment of spinal disorders, including cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine pathology. His areas of expertise include degenerative spine conditions, spine trauma, deformity correction, minimally invasive surgical techniques and revision spine surgery.
Dr. Passias completed his Orthopedic Spine Surgery Fellowship at the University of California, San Diego, under the guidance of Dr. R. Todd Allen, MD, PhD. Prior to this advanced training, he completed a rigorous five-year Orthopedic Surgery Residency through the OhioHealth System, an affiliate of the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine. He earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Ohio University, where he was inducted into both the Sigma Sigma Phi Honor Society and the Gold Humanism Honor Society, recognizing his academic excellence and compassionate care. He completed his undergraduate education at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, earning a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology, graduating Cum Laude.
Throughout his academic and clinical career, Dr. Passias has made significant contributions to orthopedic research. He is the author or co-author of more than 25 peer-reviewed publications in high-impact journals such as The Bone & Joint Journal, Orthopedics, and Archives of Orthopedic and Trauma Surgery. His research spans a wide array of topics, including advanced fixation techniques for pelvic and femur fractures, early weight-bearing protocols in trauma care, outcomes in joint arthroplasty, and the use of shape-memory alloy implants in spine and trauma surgery.
Dr. Passias has also presented his work at numerous national and regional conferences, including the Clinical Orthopaedic Society, the American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedics, and the Orthopaedic Summit Evolving Techniques. His dedication to academic advancement is further evidenced by multiple podium and poster presentations and recognition such as the AOAO Editorial Subcommittee First Place Award and the Orthopedics Blue Ribbon Article Award.
In addition to his clinical and academic pursuits, Dr. Passias is deeply committed to education and has served as a presenter for orthopedic grand rounds, medical student education forums, and national surgical training courses. He has participated in numerous professional development programs, including advanced fellow and resident courses in minimally invasive spine surgery and complex spine reconstruction offered by industry leaders.
When not at work, Dr. Passias enjoys traveling, fitness, live music and spending time with his family and friends.
